Last year was the “green room” year: 2014 the year of impending change. I thought it was going to be the year of change, and certainly a few things changed – but really it’s about go down this year.
I knew it was coming – I knew things were going to be drastically different in shorter time than I knew. I thought literally everything about my life was gong to change. Only recently did I find out that just most everything is changing. Let’s Tarantino this story.
Next time you hear Christmas music
We’ll be trimming the tree (a bigger one). In a house. That we own.
We will have gotten rid of our awful couch. (Oh, happy day.)
Mountain Man won’t be driving an 11-year-old car that’s been through more than we care to recount.
We’ll have two full-grown German Shepherds named Nike and Kratos. They’ll be playing the back yard. (We’ll have a back yard!!)
I’ll be working a few miles south of my current office location in new digs build especially for one of the best companies on the planet.
Mt. Man will be working a really weird (to me) schedule that means we’ll each get plenty of time to see each other, but also plenty of solo time. And when he starts working, it’ll be the first time in our marriage that we are both fully employed.
Flash back to 2012
Mountain Man started graduate school to become a Physician’s Assistant in May of 2012 – in Midland, Texas. We were living in Austin at the time. That’s a 7-hour commuter relationship.
In December of 2012, I moved to Dallas with our dog, Nike, to start work at a new job. Just a 6-hour commute, then.
But, in June of 2013, Mt. Man started his rotations in Abilene. The commute shortened to 3 hours!
And then in August of 2014, Mt. Man graduated and moved in to my/our tiny apartment in Dallas.
Months before he finished school, we anticipated that drastic changes could happen. Job openings were everywhere and a few offers came a long in various non-Dallas locations. And as recently as a month ago, we thought we were moving back to Austin.
And then he got a phone call. Dallas was calling again.
So everything but the city we live in is changing.
Waiting for the cue
Now – we’re still living in a 579 square-foot, one bedroom, one bath apartment with one full-grown German Shepherd (Nike) and one 4-month old German Shepherd puppy (Kratos).
We’re shopping for a new home, new car (it’s about time) and thinking down the line about shopping for new furniture (it’s also about that time).
I currently have a 7-minute commute to work which is lovely.
I’m in the midst of transitioning projects at work.
Mt. Man and I are both anxious for the start of his very awesome work as a PA.
The green room is getting really annoying. We’re ready for HOME, WORK, CAR, DOGS, and LIFE to change, already!
